In 1958, Patricia Bays Haroski registered “National Boss’ Day with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. At the time, Patricia was working for her father as a secretary for State Farm Insurance in Illinois. She felt employers deserved recognition and thanks from employees and she chose her Dad’s birthday, October 16^th as Boss’ Day.

Four years later, in 1962, Illinois Governor, Otto Kerner officially proclaimed the day.

Today, employees can give their boss a little gift to show their appreciation and thanks for being a great employer.
